Tuscumbia Alabama is a city in and the county seat of Colbert County, Alabama located in the Northwest corner of the state. This strategic location places Tuscumbia at the hub of the great Tennessee River Valley. Tuscumbia was an early center for agriculture, commerce and industry that included the first railroad west of the Allegheny Mountains.

Home of Helen Keller

America’s first lady of courage, Helen Keller, was born in Tuscumbia. Her birthplace, known as Ivy Green, is open daily for tours. William Gibson’s famous play, “The Miracle Worker”, is presented each summer by talented local performers.

Alabama Music Hall of Fame

The Alabama Music Hall of Fame, located on Hwy. 72 in Tuscumbia, showcases the musical accomplishments of Alabama natives. From opera to rythym and blues, from rock and roll to country and western, you’ll be amazed at the people you have heard of who are from Alabama.

The Tuscumbia Depot

Tuscumbia is the site for the first railroad west of the Allegheny Mountains completed in the 1830s. Tuscumbia Depot was built in 1888 by the Memphis and Charleston Railroad as a division headquarters. Currently it is being restored to its original 1888 condition.

Belle Mont Mansion

Belle Mont Mansion, circa 1828, is one of Alabama’s most distinguished homes. Featuring neoclassical architecture of Jeffersonian-Palladian style, it is owned by the Alabama Historical Commission.Coon Dog CemeteryIn Coon Dog Cemetery, over 100 coon dogs have been laid to rest in the scenic “Freedom Hills”. Unique headstones and epitaphs pay tribute to man’s best friend. “Troop” was the first dog buried there in 1937.

Colbert County Courthouse

The Colbert County Courthouse, built 1881-1909, still houses government and serves as the centerpiece for the surrounding Tuscumbia National Register Historic District which showcases a large selection of 19th century architecture.

Cane Creek Canyon Reserve

The Cane Creek Canyon Reserve is a 700-acre privately protected and maintained scenic natural area in the Little Mountain region of Colbert County. The area has been granted official status as a nature preserve through a conservation easement with the Nature Conservancy of Alabama.

Coldwater Stagecoach Stop

The Coldwater Stagecoach Stop is a one-room log cabin that houses articles associated with frontier living and dates back to pioneer days (ca 1815-1820).

Spring Creek Golf Course

Beautiful nine-hole golf course located at 800 Woodmont Drive. It features 6,370 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 72. The course rating is 76.0 and it has a slope rating of 102. Open since 1951.
