Cullman Alabama
Cullman is a city in Cullman County. Cullman is located along Interstate 65, about 50 miles north of Birmingham and about 55 miles south of Huntsville. Cullman was founded by Col. Johann Gottfried Cullmann, a German refugee who came to America in 1866. While working at a bookstore in Cincinnati, Ohio, he began formulating ideas of a special colony of working people – specifically a place for immigrants from countries such as his native Germany.

The town of Garden City is located in Cullman and Blount counties, majority of the town is in Cullman County. Garden City was the second city founded by Col. Johann G. Cullmann and incorporated in 1878. Because its original incorporation had lapsed, the city was re-incorporated in 1950. The first 12 families who settled here in 1878 were from Chicago.

Dodge City Alabama
Dodge City is a town in Cullman County and was incorporated in 1993. The community center is located in the lower level of Town Hall and serves several purposes. It has been designated as a storm shelter and is open for public use during inclement weather. The center also serves the public as a cooling or warming station during power outages or extreme temperatures. Perry Ray Park was dedicated in honor of the city’s first mayor, Perry Ray. The park has a playground and the Lion’s Club Loyal White Memorial Pavilion which was built by the Lion’s Club and named in remembrance of their first president, Loyal White.
A Nature Trail is located behind Town Hall which offers picnic areas with a scenic view and a relaxing walk. There is also an area called the Outdoor Classroom which offers a great location for small classes to enjoy their studies.

Colony Alabama
Colony Alabama was originally settled after the Civil War during the Reconstruction and emancipation, or freedom of slaves. It is Cullman’s County’s only majority African American community and was a safe haven in the early days for African Americans in the Deep South. Good Hope Alabama
Good Hope Alabama is a town located about 5 miles southwest of Cullman, Alabama. Town was incorporated in April 1962. In 1842 pioneers mostly Baptists, established a Missionary Baptist Church and chose the name Good Hope. This church had a cemetery on the south side and doubled as a school on weekdays. A Lutheran Church was built in 1883 and the Hartwig Cemetery was established on the lot adjoining the church. A small Catholic Mission was founded in 1896 by German Benedictine Monks. The biggest celebration ever held in Good Hope was the Confederate Veterans Convention on July 4th, 1899 with 1500 in attendance and 53 veterans answering the roll call. The city has seen several changes since it’s incorporation including parks being developed and house and commercial markets expanding. Good Hope Alabama Location
