Location

The Museum of Alabama and the Department of Archives and History are located in downtown Montgomery. Our address is 624 Washington Avenue, directly across the street from the Alabama State Capitol.

Hours

The Museum of Alabama and the Department of Archives and History are open Monday – Saturday, 8:30 am -4:30 pm.

The Archives Research Room is open Tuesday – Friday, 8:30 am – 4:30 pm, and the second Saturday of every month, 8:30 am – 4:30 pm. The Research Room is closed on Mondays.

The Alabama Department of Archives and History, Museum of Alabama, and Research Room are closed on all state holidays.

Admission

Admission to the Museum of Alabama is always FREE!

School Groups and Guided Tours

We are happy to host your school or group of ten or more for a guided tour of the Museum of Alabama. Please review our Guidelines. To book your tour call 334-242-4364.

Exhibit Descriptions

Guided tours of the Museum of Alabama are available for groups of 15 people or more. See our Teacher and Tour Group Guide to learn more about tour options and procedures. (If you have additional questions regarding tours, please contact Sarah McQueen at sarah.mcqueen@archives.alabama.gov.)

Admission and cost for group tours of the Museum of Alabama are always FREE.

Our Education staff hosts monthly virtual field trips through the Alabama State Department of Education. Virtual field trips will resume Fall 2021.
