It is believed that a few different spirits enjoy spending their time in the building – in the afterlife. Two of the apparent hauntings that are said to occur include that of the popular outlaw, Jesse James.

A center of the civil-rights struggle, Dallas County is home to Selma, starting point of the famous Selma to Montgomery March. The county was also the site of Cahaba, the state’s first capital as well as the largest historic district in Alabama.

An officer at the scene later remembered, “Never can I forget the brilliant scene, as regiment after regiment filed gaily out of camp, decked in all the paraphernalia of war, with gleaming arms, and guidons given to the wanton breeze.”
