The Albertville Museum, also serves as the Historical Association for the City of Albertville. The Museum opened, in what had previously been the Little Branch Primitive Church, in January 2012. The museum is located across from the historic 'Old Albertville Cemetery'. The building housing the museum stands on the spot where Albertville's first church and school were built (ca.1850). Very few historic markers are available to the public identifying these important historic Chickamauga Indian sites; the Chickamauga people consisted of the Lower Cherokee, Chickasaw, Upper Creek, Shawnee, Yuchi, Delaware, and many mixed bloods who fought to save their sacred hunting grounds on the Cumberland River and to prevent white encroachment in their homelands.

The earliest recorded notice of the Choctaw Indians is believed to be about 1540, in the area of southern Mississippi and in the early 1700s near present-day Mobile, Alabama, Biloxi, Mississippi, and New Orleans, Louisiana. Inland from these settlements there was a large tribe of Muskogean speaking people occupying about 60 towns on the streams that formed the headwaters of the Pascagoula and Pearl Rivers.
Followers of the Cherokee chief Dragging Canoe, in the winter of 1776/1777, they moved with him down the Tennessee River away from the historic Overhill Cherokee towns. In this more isolated area, they established almost a dozen new towns to gain distance from colonists' encroachment.
The Chickamauga Cherokee, also known as the Lower Cherokee, were a band of Cherokee who supported Great Britain at the outbreak of the American Revolutionary War.

One day in 1907, George Clements stood in the doorway of the house he had built in the Straight Mountain area of Blount County, Alabama, and looked out. What he probably saw, here in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, was a mostly undeveloped wilderness. There were a few scattered houses and dirt trails, a small farm or two, lots of trees, and a vast upland marsh through which flowed the Blackburn Fork of the Little Warrior River.
Today you can stand in the doorway of the “Anchor," located on the site of George Clements’ house, and see a beautiful 257-acre mountain lake, circled by a paved road, and a shoreline dotted with houses, piers, and trees. You probably will see a fisherman or two on the lake, testing their luck and perhaps some water skiers enjoying a cool escape from summer in the city.
This is the history of how a wilderness mountain valley became a lake community, providing recreational facilities for hundreds of people each year.
Abundant with whitetail deer, hogs, turkey, quail, fish, and all that Bullock County has to offer, this wondrous place is the only place to be when you plan your next hunting or fishing adventure.

Whether you are here to live, work, study or play, you will find a great sense of energy, enthusiasm and excitement in all aspects of the community. From residential to business development, you will discover that Childersburg is truly a community which is doing things.
DeSoto Caverns is a series of caves and a tourist attraction located in Childersburg, Talladega County, Alabama. Located in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, it is touted as "Alabama's Big Cave". In addition to the caves, the park offers various other attractions, including a three-quarter acre maze known as the Lost Trail Maze, panning for gemstones, a climbing wall, and amusement park style rides. While on the caverns tour, visitors can view a sound, light, and water show that changes with the holidays and seasons.
Before being commercialized as DeSoto Caverns, the cave was well known locally as Kymulga Cave. There is evidence that the cave was formerly used by Native Americans, and it was mined during the Civil War.
The Kymulga Grist Mill was built around 1860. Timber for its construction came from the nearby forest, and machinery to operate it was made in a foundry in North Carolina. Powered by water turbines, the mill was capable of grinding both wheat and corn. The covered bridge, located a few hundred feet upstream from the mill, was built the same year, in 1860. It provided access to the Georgia Road, a Native American trade route used by frontiersmen and settlers coming into the area.
There are ten golf courses in Childersburg and its immediate vicinity.
Childersburg is home to the Childersburg Tigers. 1967, 1977, 2002, and 2007 Alabama Baseball State Champions. Childersburg has won numerous youth baseball state championships including Cal Ripken, Babe Ruth and most recently (2013) American Legion.
DeSoto Caverns is also located in Childersburg.
Kymulga Mill & Covered Bridge are two locally owned historic landmarks located at Kymulga Park in Talladega County, Alabama, United States. The park is on Grist Mill Road (CR 46) off State Route 76 about 4 miles (6 kilometers) northeast of the city of Childersburg.

Chilton County is a county located in the central portion of the U.S. state of Alabama. As of the 2010 census, the population was 43,643. The county seat is Clanton.Civil War Skirmishes
Most of the Civil War battles occurred outside of present day DeKalb County. Although there were no major battles in this county during the Civil War, there were a number of skirmishes, or small battles. Unfortunately, however, there are few written accounts of these encounters between detachments of Union and Confederate troops. And most of these versions are based upon tales which were passed along by word of mouth for many years, becoming colorful legends which perhaps reflected to some extent the sentiments of the south.

Jefferson County is the most populous county in the U.S. state of Alabama, located in the central portion of the state. As of the 2010 census, its population was 658,466. Its county seat is Birmingham, the most populous city in the state.Bluff Park sits on the summit of Shades Mountain which is an example of a "cuesta" - a mountain with a steep face or escarpment on one side and a long gentle slope on the other. On the crest of the steep northwestern face of the mountain Bluff Park offers dramatic vistas of Shades Valley below and Red Mountain to the north. In the other direction land slopes gently away from the crest toward the commercial and residential developments along Hwy. 31 and Hwy. 150 and the Galleria shopping complex. According to geologists, Shades Mountain is part of a formation that stretches northward as far as Pennsylvania. The underlying rock and jutting rock formations that line the crest are primarily sandstone, originally formed in rivers. Although the rocky outcroppings discouraged large scale agriculture in Bluff Park, early settlers had small farms, dairies, orchards, and sawmills.

For over one hundred forty years, Bethel Church has been ministering to the needs of the people of eastern Wilcox County, Alabama. Founded in 1856 by settlers who relocated to Oak Hill, Bethel Church continues a tradition of Associate Reformed Presbyterian influence on this area which dates to the 1820's. The Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church is the oldest Presbyterian denomination in America. Our beliefs are those found in the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments and in the Standards of the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church.
A plantation named Gee's Bend was established in the very early 1800's on a huge bend in the Alabama River directly across the river from the present location of Camden, Alabama. The owner and creator of this prosperous plantation was Joseph Gee born March 12, 1763 in Sussex County, VA eldest son of Charles Gee and his second wife Elizabeth Dobie who later moved to Halifax, North Carolina. Joseph went to Wilcox County, AL where he built the plantation and he died at Mobile on Dec, 1, 1824. He was a bachelor and left an estate estimated at from $40,000 to $60,000 which obviously must have included the plantation, Gee's Bend. His nephews Sterling H. Gee and Charles J. Gee offered to probate an alleged verbal will by which the deceased bequeathed all his property exclusively to the two nephews. The excluded heirs contested this arrangement in a chancery court suit so there is a court record of this whole sordid affair. The result was that the property was divided among Joseph's nieces and nephews.
Hunter Appreciation Day is held in November, celebrating a rich hunting heritage and thanking the many hunters who travel from around the country to enjoy the outdoors of Wilcox County. The bi-annual Front Porch Tour is held in the spring, taking visitors back to a time when front porches were for socializing with friends and neighbors, a time when the pace of life was a bit slower.
