Marion Alabama is a city in, and the county seat of, Perry County, Alabama.
As of the 2010 census, the population of the city is 3,686, up 4.8% over 2000. First known as Muckle Ridge, the city was renamed after a hero of the American Revolution, Francis Marion, the famous “Swamp Fox.”
Known as “College City,” Marion is located in the west-central part of Alabama and is home to Judson College, the Marion Military Institute, and Coretta Scott King.
Formerly the territory of the Choctaw Indians, what is now Perry County became part of the Mississippi Territory and then the Alabama Territory after the Creek War of 1814-15.
