Fayette County was created 20 Dec 1824 from portions of Tuscaloosa and Marion counties. It is located in the northwest-central section of the state. The county was named for General Lafayette, who was touring Alabama at the time of the county’s formation.
The river and canyon have formed a wild and rugged landscape that allows for a range of peaceful and challenging recreational opportunities. The river supports world-class whitewater paddling and the canyon supports exceptional climbing opportunities. The second largest lake on the Black Warrior river, Bankhead Reservoir is centrally located in Alabama and offers plenty of residential and commercial waterfront property for camping, boating and fishing. Bankhead Reservoir contains 9,200 acres and is the second largest lake on the Warrior River. Located approximately 15 miles west of Birmingham and 30 miles northeast of Tuscaloosa, Bankhead Reservoir flows through Walker, Jefferson and Tuscaloosa Counties. Fishing
Alabama Power Company impounded Bankhead Reservoir in 1915. Bankhead Lake is best known for catches of largemouth bass and spotted bass.
Aliceville Lake, aka Aliceville Reservoir and sometimes called Pickensville Lake by local anglers, is an 8,300-acre reservoir located approximately 12 miles northwest of the City of Aliceville Alabama in Pickens County. The reservoir is formed by the Tom Bevill Lock and Dam, which is located one mile southwest of Pickensville, just off Alabama State Highway 14. This reservoir is popular with anglers from both Alabama and Mississippi since portions of the impoundment are located in both states. New Conecuh River Boat Landing Now Open Near Pollard, Ala. The Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (ADCNR) Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Division (WFF) has recently opened a new boat landing on the Conecuh River near Pollard, Ala. The new landing is approximately 9 miles south of the city of Brewton, Ala., on the west side of the river near the end of Pollard Road. The new facility includes a 15-foot-wide launching slab and concrete parking lot for 17 truck and trailer rigs and is fully compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act. During the summer of 2017, the parking lot will be striped to designate parking spaces.
Lakepoint State Park
Lakepoint State Park is a 1,220 acre park located on Lake Eufala, on Highway 431, seven miles north of Eufaula Alabama. Lake Eufaula, a beautiful 45,200 acre lake, is known as “The Bass Capital of the World” and is included in the Alabama Bass Trail. The park has an 18-hole golf course, a 192 site campground, 29 cabins, cottages, marina, full service restaurant and lounge, tennis courts, playgrounds, dog-friendly cabins, picnic areas and hiking trails. Lake Guntersville State Park, on the banks of the Tennessee River in Northeast Alabama, offers a resort complex, campground, 18-hole golf course, hiking and fishing. Located on the 69,000 acre Guntersville Lake the park hosts a resort inn, restaurant and convention complex on Taylor Mountain. Chalets on the ridge-tops provide overnight accommodations.
